Daphne Board of Directors Office The 9th Issue of 2010 March 29, 2010
Since last autumn, the whole prefecture has been suffering the worst drought in 100 years. So far, the drought has caused difficult drinking water availability among a population of more than 2.7 million throughout the prefecture. To display the sense of social responsibility, a “drought relief - water sending campaign headed by Daphne was launched. Wenshan prefectural military police troops and Yunnan Gouding Baiyue Printing Co., Ltd. participated in the campaign.
On March 26, a fleet directed by Xiang Changwan, Daphne's VP, sent 5T drinking water in urgent need to the Yindong Village, Gumu Town, Wenshan County, where more than 200 villagers from 42 families live. And 600 bottles of mineral water was distributed to 4 schools nearby: Hongshidong, Yindong, Afu and Luokemu. The Yindong Village in Gumu Town was severely stricken by the drought. In the past, in water short seasons, the villagers had to collect water from other villages in 1 or 2 months. This time, the drought lasted nearly 6 months, making the condition even worse. Sometimes, nearly 400 students in the primary schools nearby had to collect water from ditches nearby. The hygienic condition was so worrying. When the fleet arrived at the village, the crew and villagers worked together to unloaded the water and distributed the mineral water to the students and their faculties. The clean water and the crew's sweat soothed the heart of the drought victims. Xiaozhi, a Form 3 student at the Yindong Primary School said excitedly that, “thanks for your water. We will study hard and do good deeds in the future!” The laughs echoed over the village. Love brought pleasure and warmth to the victims.
